Breastfeeding my two children was definitely among the hardest and most rewarding parts of early motherhood for me.
Throughout my journey, I always turned to my stash of milk-boosting recipes that kept my supply flowing and robust the entire time.
Here’s one of my favorites recipes for boosting milk production- Oatmeal Cookies. This recipe includes oatmeal, flaxseed, and brewer’s yeast–foods often included in recipes, particularly in non-western cultures, for postnatal recovery and overall health and wellness for lactating moms.
As far as I know, these foods have not been studied or shown by the Food and Drug Administration to officially boost breast milk production. But they worked for me. And maybe they’ll work for you.

tsp= teaspoon
tbsps= tablespoons
Ingredients:
1 greased baking sheet
1 cup of butter
1 cup of white sugar
1 cup of brown sugar
4 tbsps of water
2 tbsps of flaxseed
2 eggs
1 tsp of vanilla
2 cups of flour
1 tsp of baking soda
1 tsp of salt
3 cups of oats
1 cup of chocolate chips
4 tbsps of brewer’s yeast (get this at your local health food store, it’s worth it!)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix the flaxseed and water together and let sit for 5 minutes. In a separate bowl, use a hand mixer to mix the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together very well. Add the eggs to the butter and sugar and mix well. Add the flaxseed mix and vanilla to this bowl and continue to mix well.
In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, brewer’s yeast, and salt. After you’ve sifted them well, add these dry ingredients to the butter and sugar blend. Next, stir in the oats and chocolate chips. When the oats and chocolate chips are well distributed into the mix, you are ready to scoop!
Scoop out tablespoon-sized heaps of the mixture onto a greased baking sheet. Bake for 10 – 15 minutes or until the bottoms are just brown enough. Let them cool and either enjoy immediately or put the in a freezer bag to enjoy later.
