Everyone loves a Farmhouse Kitchen right? Have you dreamed of Chip and Joanna coming to your house to host Fixer Upper? Can you imagine converting your 1980s kitchen into a gorgeous space with reclaimed hardwood floors, sliding barn doors, and shiplap EVERYWHERE?!
Well, I’m almost there y’all. For those of you who follow BestestMommyEver on Facebook, you know my kitchen has been under renovation all summer. Literally since Memorial Day Weekend. Can you imagine not being able to cook since May?
The backsplash and sink are going in over the next few days. The countertops were delivered last weekend. And we’ve moved the dining table back into the kitchen.
We are officially in countdown mode. Definitely past our deadline, but in countdown mode nonetheless.
And to keep it real, it’s not a true Farmhouse design, strictly speaking. I’ve included Farmhouse elements with more modern touches.
So there’s some bronze lighting with an antique look going on. There’s a Farmhouse clock that matches the lighting. We kept our round Williams Sonoma Farmhouse Table I found on Craigslist last year for $120 brand new. The walls are the requisite Farmhouse gray with hints of blue that I love.
And there’s no shiplap anywhere–after living with crumbling plaster walls for 10 years, I’m so very very proud to have drywall thank you very much.
My favorite part of the design are the four bistro bronze chairs I bought on Amazon. The bronze is part of the rustic design to break up all of the white, gray and silver that dominate the room. And these chairs have a wooden seat instead of the usual metal on bistro chairs. I love that we could bring in a wood element into the mix. Do I sound like Joanna yet?
About these chairs–they are everyone on the Internet, and on Amazon there are hundreds of listings and companies to choose from. I purchased these chairs based on customer reviews and photos, noting their dissatisfactions and comments about the chairs. My chairs weren’t the least expensive but the company seemed to offer the best quality and had a great customer service rating for returns.
I added these four Farmhouse-inspired pillows to the chairs–they are actually just pillowcases purchased on Amazon and I used my own pillow inserts. They add to the Farmhouse vibe and make the seating more comfy. The rest of the design is pretty modern– I’m not a big fan of butcher block countertops or open shelving and I used modern polished silver bar hardware throughout the kitchen.
I didn’t go all the way down the Farmhouse rabbit hole because when the Farmhouse trend goes out of still one day–and I’m pretty sure it will–I still need to love my kitchen.
I hope you enjoyed my sneak peek and stay tuned for more photos when it’s completely finished.
