When you’re a mommy, it feels like you’re the bull’s-eye of all the sneezes, snotty hands and runny noses your kids bring home.
So my nightstand is looking like a RiteAid nowadays; there’s multivitamins for women’s wellness, nasal spray and allergy meds, ibuprofen, kid’s Benadryl, DayQuil and NyQuil and zinc tablets for immune support.
Lately, I’ve been adding essential oils to my daily routine to stay well—with great results!
Applying therapeutic essential oils to your chest, feet, and neck can build immune support that may help you avoid being sick, or shorten the length of your illnesses.
As many of you know, I’m a distributor of Young Living’s essential oils, but first and foremost, I’ve a customer of the products. I’ve been using the oils for stress relief and to clean and freshen my home naturally. I’ve also learned that these natural, plant-derived oils can also be used to support nearly every system in our bodies.
Here are a few essential oil combinations I’ve been using to avoid getting sick and to stay well:
Thieves Oil and Thieves Vitality
What is it: A blend of lemon, clove, eucalyptus, cinnamon bark, and rosemary oils.
How to use it: At the first sign I might be coming down with something yucky, I combine 3 drops of Thieves Oil with 1 tsp of coconut oil and spread it across my chest, neck, and behind my ears. I also put it on the bottoms of my feet, followed by socks, right before bed. Add two drops of Thieves Vitality to a tea for added benefits.
RC + Coconut Oil
What is it: RC is a blend of cypress, spruce, pine, lavender, and three types of eucalyptus oils.
How to use it: Use 2 to 3 drops of this blend with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to rub across your chest and neck for respiratory support. The energizing, invigorating aroma can help create the feeling of normal, clear breathing. Apply a few drops to your bathwater or add a few drops to a diffuser for similar results.
Thieves Oil + Frankincense + Copaiba + Coconut Oil
What is it: THE ANSWER!! Seriously, this is your go-to combination during the cold weather season to fight off whatever contagion your kids bring home.
How to use it: Use 2 to 3 drops of each oil with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to rub across your chest, neck, and behind your ears.
Oregano Vitality Alone or + Coconut Oil or Jojoba Oil
What is it: A great ingredient for pasta sauce and a secret weapon when you feel like you’re coming down with something really yucky.
How to use it: Steam Inhalation: Add 4 or 5 drops of Oregano to a pot of boiling water. Remove the pot from heat and lower your head over the Oregano steam for 5 to 10 minutes, remaining just close enough to breathe in the vapors but not get burned by the steam. Place a towel over your head to create a steam tent. Diffuse it: Add 4 or 5 drops to a diffuser for 15 to 20 minutes to release the therapeutic effects and breathe in the vapors. Topically: Add 3 to 4 drops of Oregano Oil to 1 teaspoon of Coconut or Jojoba Oil and spread across your chest, neck, and shoulders for a soothing balm. Rub it on the bottoms of your feet for added benefit.
SniffleEase
What is it: A blend of 11 essential oils, including Pine and Eucalyptus, and diluted with coconut oil. This blend is specially formulated for children.
How to use it: Test the blend by rubbing 2 to 3 drops on the bottom of your child’s foot and wait for an hour to make sure there’s no skin reaction. Apply 2 to 3 drops to your child’s chest right before bed.
